Simon Gutwein is a PhD student and research assistant at the Computer Vision Lab at TU Wien. Since 2022, he has been conducting his doctoral research under the supervision of Martin Kampel and Sabine Taschner-Mandl from the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute. His research focuses on leveraging AI-driven methodologies for spatial biology, exploring the relationships between various cell types in tumor imaging data. Simon is particularly enthusiastic about developing computational methods to quantify uncertainty in applied AI, addressing challenges in medical diagnostics.
He holds a Master’s degree in Medical Radiation Science from the University of Tübingen (2021) and a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Saar (2019). His academic journey includes projects on radiation treatment dose estimation using deep learning and algorithm development for flexible endoscope cleaning. Simon actively engages in advancing the intersection of AI and healthcare to improve patient outcomes.
