AVCloud aims to integrate Europe’s extensive audiovisual (AV) heritage into the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). Audiovisual materials—including film, video, and audio recordings—represent a major part of Europe’s cultural heritage but pose specific challenges for preservation, cataloguing, metadata enrichment, and research due to their time-based, reproducible, and interconnected nature.

The project brings together cultural heritage professionals, researchers, computer scientists, and software developers to test and improve ECCCH services. Using large-scale datasets such as the European Film Gateway (EFG), Visual History of the Holocaust (VHH) dataset, and Vienna Time Machine (VTM), AVCloud will develop and evaluate approaches for working with audiovisual collections in the cloud. The resulting data models, vocabularies, tools, and workflows will support improved access to and research on audiovisual heritage while also contributing methods applicable to the wider cultural heritage domain.
